Reid Ducharme Commitment Q&A

Class of 2023 wing Reid Ducharme of Brewster Academy (NH) and BABC (MA) has committed to Xavier over Penn State and Syracuse. Ducharme joins Prolific Prep’s Trey Green as the second commitment in Sean Miller’s ‘23 recruiting class. Registering one of the top Peach Jam performances this past summer, the 6’7” wing poured in 42 points on 15-25 shooting from the field along with six threes. Besides excelling as a scorer and shooter, Ducharme brings strong positional size and is capable of playing the 3-and-D role at the next level.

Ducharme spoke with Pro Insight’s Conrad Chow about his decision:

Pro Insight: We last spoke in April during the Final Four. How was your summer? What was the highlight of your last AAU season?

Reid Ducharme: My summer was really good. I felt like I improved a lot. The highlight of my summer would probably be being able to play my last AAU tournament with my team and our team playing the best basketball we played all EYBL.

PI: When it came down to it — what were the most important factors in choosing your next step?

RD: A school that I know can help develop my game to the next level and a coaching staff that has trust in me and is honest with me.

PI: Who did you lean on for guidance throughout the process?

RD: The people I talked to the most during this process were my parents, my AAU coach Leo Papile and my high school coach Jason Smith.

PI: Without further adieu — where will you be playing next season?

RD: I will be playing at Xavier University next season!

PI: Congratulations! What separated Xavier from the rest of your options?

RD: It was a really hard decision to make, but what stuck out the most to me was the relationships I built with all the coaches and it just felt like the right decision. I also liked the Big East where basketball is the main focus.

PI: What was Coach Miller and his staff’s reaction when you told them?

RD: Coach Miller was really excited when I told him the news. He told me how he’s glad I have that much trust in them and that they already can’t wait to get to work.

PI: What is Xavier getting in Reid Ducharme?

RD: Xavier is getting the kind of player that wants to work hard and is motivated to compete and win a lot of games. I can affect the game in a lot of ways: I can shoot, get to the basket, play defense and I love to get my teammates involved. I also know under this staff they’ll be able to take my game to the next level.

PI: What are you hoping to work on between now and getting to campus?

RD: I’m mainly focused on improving my ball handling and trying to get my body as college-ready as possible.

PI: Lastly, do you have any message for the Musketeers fans who are thrilled about your commitment?

RD: I can’t wait to become a part of this historic basketball program and I can’t wait till I get to play in front of everyone!
