After an eye-catching performance for Italy at the Albert Schweitzer Tournament last March, Luigi Suigo continued his excellent play into the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup in June and the FIBA U18 Eurobasket in July, where he led his team in rebounds and blocked shots. Luigi’s blend of size and versatility seen in FIBA competition was also on full display at the Basketball Without Borders Global Camp over All-Star Weekend last month in Oakland, CA.

In this interview, Pro Insight spoke with Luigi to learn about his background, his play style, his favorite NBA players, and more.

For the next installment of the Pro Insight Q&A series we present 2007-born prospect Luigi Suigo, from Milano, Italy:

Pro Insight: To start off, please introduce yourself to our audience.

Luigi Suigo: Hi, I’m Luigi Suigo. I play in Italy for Olympia Milano. I’m 2007. Yeah that’s it.

PI: Tell us about your background and how you got to where you are today.

LS: I got a call for the BWB Europe with my teammate Diego. We went to Malaga and I played really well in that BWB – I won the all-star, and then they called me to come to Global Camp.

PI: Did you play any other sports growing up?

LS: No, I only liked to do swimming. My father wants me to know how to swim…and no, I only played basketball.

PI: Can you please describe your game for anyone who hasn’t seen you play?

LS: I’m a center. I play also as a four. The main thing I can do, for me, is shooting threes. I can play in post up, catch lobs. On defense I can switch with everyone and I block and rebound.

PI: Can you talk a bit about your experience at BWB Global?

LS: For me, the experience here was very good because I can meet new people, new guys through the playing time. I’m a guy that loves others so I met some people here who will be in my heart forever. The basketball thing is good…good competition. There are very good players here and I like to be here with my teammates, also.

PI: When you watch basketball, are there any teams, schools, or players that you like, in particular?

LS: I watch the NBA, but not specifically the teams – I watch players.

PI: Who’s your favorite player?

LS: Wembanyama. I want to be like him one day. I want to play like him. I watch Wemby, Porzingis, KAT…also Jokic, but he’s too slow for me, he’s not my type of player but I like to watch him. Sometimes I also watch Giannis.

PI: Three years from now, where do you envision yourself?

LS: Honestly, I don’t know. My dream is to be a lottery pick in the draft but if I don’t get good enough to go to the draft, I will move up to play in the EuroLeague for my team. First dream is a lottery pick in the draft and then play EuroLeague.
