Dom Fisher Q&A

The Spanish-American guard Dominique Fisher recently had a solid showing at the adidas Next Gen Euroleague Istanbul stop, showcasing his energetic and aggressive defensive playstyle. Coming from a basketball family (his dad was a long term overseas pro), his decision to pursue a pro career is to no one’s surprise.

In this interview with Pro Insight’s Florian Kurth, the two connected to discuss Dominique’s path, his game, his 2024-25 season with Estudiantes so far, and more.

For the next installment of the Pro Insight Q&A series, we present 2025 guard Dominique Fisher from Madrid, Spain:

Pro Insight: Dominique, how is the season going for you so far in general?

Dominique Fisher: The season is actually going very well. Thanks for asking. We have a good team and I think we will be able to make it to the Spanish championship. I’m also doing stuff with the EBA team from Estudiantes.

PI: Some days ago you competed at the adidas Next Gen tournament in Istanbul, Turkey. Give us your impression of the event.

DF: It was an unforgettable experience and I’m very thankful for the opportunity. I was able to meet new players and also play against some of the best players in my generation.

PI: How was it for you playing with 11 other basically completely new teammates?

DF: At the beginning it was kind of difficult to adapt, but at the end we managed to do the best we could thanks to the great coaching staff we got.

PI: How did you initially get into basketball? Safe to assume through your father?

DF: Yes, I remember watching my dad play and I just fell in love with the game.

PI: Did you try your hand at other sports as well?

DF: Yes, when I was about nine years old I tried soccer for two years, but I didn’t really enjoy it as much as basketball.

PI: Tell us something about your family background. You have two passports, right?

DF: Yes, my mom is from Madrid, Spain, and my dad is from Seattle, USA. They met in college in the States, at Saint Louis University, so I have a double nationality, Spanish and American.

PI: Do you have any other professionals in your family besides your dad?

DF: No, just my dad.

PI: What do you like to do whenever you have an off day? Any other hobbies in general?

DF: Not my favorite thing to do, but I need to study. And when I have some free time I like going out with my friends and playing video games.

PI: How would you describe your game and playstyle to someone who has never seen you play?

DF: I see myself as a fast and explosive point guard.

PI: What would you say is your biggest strength right now?

DF: My quickness and being able to dribble and attack the rim.

PI: How would you say you are impacting winning for your team?

DF: Trying to play the best I can each game and use my scoring ability to help the team.

PI: Is there a weakness that you are focusing on right now to improve?

DF: My weak hand.

PI: What would you say is your favorite part of a team practice?

DF: Preparing ourselves for the next game and competing.

PI: Can you imagine going to college one day?

DF: Yes, that’s one of my goals.

PI: If so, what would be your dream school?

DF: I don’t really have a preference, but I would like to go to a D1 school.

PI: What are your goals for the rest of the season?

DF: Improve my weaknesses and finish strong.

PI: What is your long term goal regarding your basketball career?

DF: Try to reach the NBA and work everyday to make it as far as possible.

PI: Where do you see yourself in five years?

DF: Playing professional basketball.

PI: Do you have any specific hype music which you listen to before games?

DF: I usually listen to Drake and Lil Baby before games.

PI: Do you watch much basketball on TV?

DF: I don’t really have much time to watch TV in general. The NBA games come on too late, but before I go to school I like to watch the results from the night before.

PI: You have played basketball in the states, but also in Europe. What would you say are the biggest differences in playstyle, etc.?

DF: In the States they play a lot more physical, while in Europe they play fixed basketball with a lot of systems, but I feel comfortable playing in both.

PI: Who is the most important person in your life?

DF: My family members.

PI: Last question — describe yourself with only a few words.

DF: Hard worker, perfectionist and friendly.
